Week 2 2012 NFL Football Picks

I know this isn't the video of Rachelle's performance on Wheel of Fortune. But I thought it would be a reminder. Also, Rachelle was prone to being picked on by boys at school when she was younger. There are snakes in her closet, so she has to check all her shoes before putting them on (and I mean ALL her shoes as in a large number of them).

Okay, let's get down to business. As we all know, Rachelle lucked out last week when the Carolina Panthers lost what should have been a gimme game and when Jacksonville had the game with 20 seconds left only to let Minnesota into field goal range to tie the game and send it into OT.

I have hired a large contingent of replacement referees, a few liberal journalists and bunch of football experts on CBSSports.com to see to it that the games this week go right. Okay, well maybe I didn't do all that. But with my super human brain, I am the Larry Sabato of football. So here's what the crystal ball says:

9/13 8:20 ET Chicago At Green Bay
9/16 1:00 ET Tampa Bay At NY Giants

How a Fan Feels When The Celebrity Passes On

So you run and you run to catch up with the sun but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again.
The sun is the same in a relative way but you're older,
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death.

I'm not big into making people into larger than life figures. Most of them have worked hard to get their talent recognized. For that, they deserve credit. The music business is a difficult business. The passing of Whitney Houston is just another reminder of how fleeting life is. It doesn't matter who we are.

Her talent is universally recognized. I can truly say I relate to fans who are suddenly confronted with the loss of a talent they have followed for years. John Entwistle, bass player for the Who, died from cocaine. When I was a teenager, John Bonham, drummer for Led Zeppelin, died from alcohol. Watching great talents succumb to a sudden unnecessary end is hard to understand. But it happens. It also happens to the rest of us at some point even if the cause is more natural.

I was watching a video by Pink Floyd last night and it really reminded me of how fragile life is. Richard Wright, keyboarist for Pink Floyd died of cancer. He sings key philosophical lines of the song Time at the 2:45 mark.

We are truly fleas on an elephant's ass in the grand scheme of things. "Time" comes to all at some point. Let's hope that God is a more forgiving of our shortcomings than we are, for Whitney's sake.
