NFL 2009 Week 4: Head To Head Power Picks

The Cowboys, the Chargers and the Ravens will win on the road.

These top picks are gutsy calls for sure. But noone ever succeeded in life by thinking inside the box. If you want to win a head to head pool, go with the gut instinct. Many of your competitors will be scratching their heads over these three games thinking, ah rule of thumb go with the home team.

I know what you're thinking. She'll never be president because she resigned her governship and I'll never win this week's pool because I'm taking the road teams. To that, I say DEATH PANELS for my detractors.

And if I die, I die. I’ll know that I have spoken up...

Ace Frehley On Red Eye

Welcome to Patricks's Power Picks. It's like Red Eye for sports and pop culture fans... only without Greg Gutfeld.

Today's power pick is former Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley. Even though Kiss has replaced him in the band, true fans will always respect and admire his contribution to the band as a founding member.

Since Greg isn't here, I figured I would fill in with a "Gregalogue" of my own:

In an age of Hollywood elites and Greenwich Village artists, the question has been asked (by me of course) is it possible to have a right wing popular culture that's funnier, more entertaining and less grating on the nerves than today's existing left wing culture is?

Considering that most Americans consider themselves "non-liberal," how is it possible that the Alec Baldwins and Stephen Kings of the world are holding our national attention? I became a Saturday Night Live fan when Weekend Update featured a segment called "Point Counterpoint" where Jane Curtain would take a liberal position on an issue only to be rebuked by Dan Akroyd who always began his response "Jane, you ingorant slut."

Where are the Joe Biden skits? Why isn't Keith Olbermann a frothing at the mouth caricature on late night comedy shows? Where is the MASH episode where Frank Burns hits on Margaret Hoolihan and asks her "you wanna play Todd and Sarah?"

Wouldn't it be great if Norm walked into a modern day version of Cheers and told everyone in the bar "you should need a PIN number to get anything out of me because in today's tax climate I might as well be an ATM machine."

Where's the episode of Family Ties where Alex Keaton is arguing with his parents about organizing a TEA party?

The term "conservative" no longer conjurs up images of square people, rich old white men who look like Montgomery Burns or female school teachers with crinkly faces and pointed upturned noses. Conservatives of today rock like Kiss, Metallica, Dream Theater and Queensryche. And just because some of them like to toss down a beer or two doesn't mean they can't believe in God, family and country.

Conservative pop culture needs more Ted Nugents, Larry the Cable Guys and Carrie Prejeans and less Dave Matthews, David Lettermans and Janine Garafolos. Besides, conservative chicks are hotter and conservative men are more macho. Come on Hollywood, more Heidi Montag in a bathing suit and less Roseann Barr, okay?

We can do it, America. We can demand more Bruce Willis and less Brad Pitt. We can take the Bruce Springsteen out of the CD rack and replace it with Alice Cooper. We can do it. The law of supply and demand eventually has to reach Hollywood, too.

Ah someday there will be real humor again on Saturday Night Live.

"I'm Sarah Palin, have a good night and a pleasant tomorrow."

Walk This Way

a great meeting with Joe Perry and his wife Billie - and will never forget their support during the campaign!" - Senator John McCain on Twitter

Yes, the lead guitar player for Aerosmith is a Republican who supported the McCain-Palin Campaign in 2008. Rock on!

So lets draw some swords for our maiden fair and head foward into the 2012 election singing along with Aerosmith.

Listen to the song here.

Kings and Queens
by Aerosmith
Long ago in days untold
Were ruled by lords of greed
Maidens fair, with gold they dared
To bare their wombs that bleed
Kings And Queens and guillotines
Taking lives denied
Starch and parchments laid the laws
When bishops took the ride

Only to decieve

Oh I know I
Lived this life before
Somehow I know now
Truths I must be sure
Tossin' turnin', nightmares burnin'
Dreams of swords in hand
Sailing ships, the viking spits
The blood of father's land

Only to decieve

Living times of knights and mares
Raising swords for maidens fair
Sneer at death, fear only loss of pride
Living other centuries
Deja vu or what you please
Follows true to all who do or die
Screams of no reply
They died
Screams of no reply
And died
Lordy, Lordy, they died

It's All About Week Three Football: A Post by Conservative Chick

Hey, fellow pigskiners!!! I am so happy that Patrick has given me the chance to voice my opinions on the picks of the week. As a life-time sports enthusiast, and former high school softball player, I have grown up with a love for sports and the determination to win. While in college, I studied Journalism, and was always designated Sports Anchor for all the on-air stories. My competitive nature is one of the main driving forces behind my desire to run for political office one day. Sarah Palin is a great role model of mine as she is to so many young women. One of the things that I admire most about Sarah is her love for sports. As a former high school basketball player, she knows what it means to win and the importance of team work. She has been credited with saying: "Everything I've ever needed to know, I learned through sports." Sarah is so true in saying this. Like Sarah, I learned the value of team work, the importance of being a team player and the desire to win, while striving to be the best I can be. The other athletes out there know exactly what I am talking about. Now, let's get down to business. The following are my picks for Week Three:

Chargers over Dolphins: As many of you may have heard, I'm a San Diegan and a HUGE San Diego Charger's fan!!! While we have come so close to getting to the Super Bowl the last few years, we just cannot seem to get it done. Well, as I say every year, "Maybe this is our year!" While the Chargers struggled this past week (Our head coach hates to take the necessary risks and chances), I am going to pick my boys over the Miami Dolphins, who lost to the Colts last night in a heart breaker. The Chargers have all the necessary weapons to beat a team like Miami.

Packers over the Rams

Vikings over 49ers

Patriots over Falcons

Jets over Titans: I may have been one of a small group of people who picked the Jets to beat the Patriots last week. The reason I did is simple: They're hot and continue to be hot as we head into week three. Plus, I love the trash talking that their coach has been doing. What's football without the whole trash talking drama?

Eagles over Chiefs: While Donavon McNabb seems to be injured, I still believe the Eagles will beat a Chief team that is definitely struggling to find their groove with a new quarterback.

Ravens over Browns

Texans over Jaguars

Redskins over Lions: Do you think the Lions will ever win a game this season?

Bears over Seattle: The Bears looked hot last week when they surprised the entire country and beat the Steelers. Now, as they head into Seattle, they should have no problem beating a Seahawk team that is in desperate need of an identity. As much as I cannot stand Jay "Cuddles" Cutler (It's a San Diego thing), he should play well against the 'hawks.

Saints over Bills: Two words: Drew Brees (Enough said). As much as I love Terrell Owens, yes I really do, I have to go with a former San Diego Chargers QB who is well on his way to being the NFL MVP.

Steelers over Bengals: While the Steelers and their kicker struggled against the Bears, Big Ben and company will have no problem with a weak team like the Bengals. And from a girl's perspective, Big Ben is a hottie!!! I cannot stand Pittsburgh fans, but I will always love Big Ben who is simply a gentleman and a class act!

Raiders over Broncos: Many of you may be like "What is she thinking with this pick?" I have many reasons for picking the Raiders. While the Broncos are 2-0, it is easy to see why. They have played two easy teams (Bengals and Browns), which is the only reason why they are 2-0. This week, their winning streak comes to an end, as they play a hot Raiders team and face a group of crazy fans in a very hostile stadium.

Colts over Cardinals

Giants over Buccaneers

Panthers over Cowboys:
I know my dear friend, Patrick, is going to kill me for this, but Tony Romo (whom I adore and love to the point in which I named my little dog after him), is clearly struggling, and the Panthers are due for a win. This time, no one can blame it on Terrell Owens or my girl, Jessica Simpson. (SHAME on you haters!) The Cowboys are clearly not in the groove, and with Tony throwing four picks last week, it is hard for me to see the Cowboys clicking in the near future. Like Patrick, I love the Cowboys to the point of calling them my "Second team," but it is going to be hard to overcome all the different attitudes this team has. They need to find themselves, and until they do, they will struggle to find the rhythm they need to win. BUT, if they do pull it out, I will post a pick of me in my cute pink and white Jessica Simpson inspired Tony Romo jersey, and post it here next week!!!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK THREE, EVERYBODY!!!

NFL 2009 Week 3: Head To Head Power Picks

After a disgusting loss to the New York Giants, the Cowboys head into Monday Night next week against the Carolina Panthers. Looking to get back on track, the 'boys will be gunning for their first win at the new stadium.

It was nauseating enough that Keith Olbermann did the pre-game show and the half time highlights only to have the game completely ruined on a last second field goal by Lawrence Tynes. Add more misery to that considering that Romo threw for three TDs, unfortunately two of them were scored by the Giants. And, with no Jessica Simpson to distract him, Romo still threw for a total of three interceptions.

As for last week's picks, I should have picked them out of a hat. How can anyone have ever expected that Houston, Cincinatti, Chicago and the Jets would have won?

Rachelle Friberg's San Diego Chargers couldn't beat Baltimore despite Rivers throwing going 25-45 for 436 yards.

So no Olbermann next week. Instead, the Cowboys will play on Monday night, when ESPN opens the coverage with the much more palatable and suitable Hank Williams, JR.

Enjoy some footage from a rally I attended:

Now onto this weeks winners: Patrick's Power Picks for Week 3.

Metallica: "Don't Tread On Me"

Lyrics

Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
Once you provoke her, rattling of her tail
Never begins it, never, but once engaged...
Never surrenders, showing the fangs of rage

Dont tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that youll hear evermore...

Dont tread on me

Love it or live it, she with the deadly bite
Quick is the blue tongue, forked as lighting strike
Shining with brightness, always on surveillance
The eyes, they never close, emblem of vigilance

Dont tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that youll hear evermore...

Dont tread on me

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war

Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail
Once you provoke her, rattling on her tail

So be it
Threaten no more
To secure peace is to prepare for war
So be it
Settle the score
Touch me again for the words that youll hear evermore...

Dont tread on me

NFL 2009 Week 2: Head To Head Power Picks

Sarah Palin may be taking on Barack Obama over health care reform, but the real issue this week is going to be the debate over whether or not the Cowboys can beat the Giants at home.

The Giants have a strong team this year. In week 2, we may get a glimpse of whether the Cowboys have the mustard to contend for the division title.

Now, we're going to need to get serious about these picks, so lets avoid stupidity:

Okay, now that we got stupidity out of the way, here are my picks. I may lose some twitter cred with @rachellefriberg over not picking her San Diego Chargers. But they didn't make it look easy on Monday night beating Oakland, LT may be damaged and Baltimore has that stingy defense.
